“I might be a beast astray, with no sense of its environment, yet there was some meaning in my foolish life, something in me gave an answer and was the receiver of those distant calls from worlds far above…” - Hermann Hesse (1877-1962)

A lone man that was he, this Steppenwolf. He spent his time wandering around the streets and parks at night. Immersed in deep thought and hiding in the lonely corners of his own mind, he cursed his fate and his own life. And he cursed the world around him that ignored the real terror of living.. What was everyone so busy doing, running around working at offices, playing games and sports and watching series or going to movies? Wasn't this all just a big game of hide-and-seek with the 'omnipresence' of Death in our tracks, in all we attain? The truly attainable things, the arts, music and really feeling alive - those things were worth striving for. And if for a moment this Steppenwolf did feel a rush of joy or nobility, he cursed those moments even more. Because what place did they have in this split mind of his, with the beast and the man? And what place could they have in a society like this..?

... ... ...

Steppenwolf the opera is the Faustian struggle of an intellectual in a world he doesn't comprehend. It is the story of an individual's search for true meaning and self-realization with only one purpose: to regain access to the 'Garden of Eden', a place where happiness and freedom give way to new chances of playing the game of life.

Throughout these coming months you will witness the journey of this lonely Steppenwolf as he discovers parts of his so carefully closed-off mind, when all of a sudden it BURSTS open and reveals a thousand new paths to walk and doors to enter. You too will walk these paths. You too will enter. But there is one condition: to gain access you must lose your sanity.. Are you ready?
